For our 2d bird, we will use exactly the same elementary sketch, simply with different proportions. By simply tweaking the size of caput, trunk and the shape of the wings we get a very different bird - a small, stubby wren.

How to draw a bird: base sketch step by step
Stride 1 : Sketch the caput and trunk shapes
Showtime the bird drawing past sketching a prolonged oval for the head. And then add two curves, one from each side, to draw another oval-like shape with a precipitous point. This looks very much like our basic fish body. Equally we will see in the second part of this tutorial, you can depict very different birds by simply changing the proportions of these 2 shapes. For our parrot, these are both adequately slim and elongated ovals.
Stride two : Sketch the bird's wings and tail
In this footstep, we add the bird's wings: these are drawn as ii curves meeting at the wing tip on each side. We stop up with a shape that looks similar a crescent moon, partially hidden behind the bird'south body. Next, draw a simple rectangle for the bird'due south tail. Nosotros will improve on both the wings and tail sketches soon.
Stride 3 : Describe the feathers on the wings
Permit's add some squeamish feathers to the wings. Start drawing near the trunk, and overlap one feather over the next. Draw the wing feathers as a curved line for the bottom, and a edgeless and rounded off plume tip that folds dorsum with a flat line on the top.
Footstep 4 : Describe the bird'southward beak and feet
Permit's keep adding more than details. Depict a confront cross on the caput, which will help us identify the beak. Depict the upper part of the parrot's nib as a triangle, centred on the face cross. Then draw two curves for the lower curved part of the nib. These again come across at the centreline. For the feet, start with two simple curls with a long straight line at the bottom. We will complete the anxiety in the adjacent step.
Step 5 : Cease the bird's neb and feet, add eyes
At present it is time to end drawing both the beak and anxiety. Add two modest triangles, one within the other, for the lower "jaw" of the neb. Close the two curls for the feet, and so you get a dainty rounded hook for the starting time finger. Then add 2 more ovals to advise the other fingers on the feet. Finally, finish the bird'due south face with two simple pocket-size ovals - fill them in for the eyes.
Step half dozen : Describe the parrots tail feathers and "hairdo"
As the final step of sketching our bird, draw the "pilus" feathers on the top of parrot's head - some zig-zag lines to advise mohawk-like feathers. Next, draw the iii feathers for the tail. Start with the eye one, a very long oval open up at the top. Then add slightly shorter side feathers.
How to draw a bird: outline the drawing pace past stride
Step i: Draw the bird'southward face up and pilus
Let's start outlining our sketch: Draw out the "pilus" start, then describe the face. Notice we have a added a short heart line to the summit of the beak and filled in the natural language, that small-scale triangle, in the lower part of the beak.
Stride 2: Outline the head and feet
Next, we outline the head. Merely instead of cartoon directly from the sketch, use a zig-zag line to suggest some small feathers - like to what we used for cartoon the dog or monkey's fur. Next, outline the bird'south feet.
Step iii: Draw the bird's feathered wings
Now it is time to depict the feathers on the wings. Again, start from the bottom most the body, and build upwardly and layer the feathers all the way up to the wingtips. When outlining the top wing line, find we have drawn it with a slight "South" curve, compared to the original sketch, to better suggest the stronger shoulder muscles that move the bird'south wings.
Step iv: Draw the bird's tail
The final step to complete our bird cartoon is to outline the tail feathers and cease the body outline. Again, employ some zig-zag lines to draw the lower role of the torso under the bird'south feet, to advise some short feathers.
Footstep 5: Add a few final details
While the bird cartoon is complete now, we can, every bit usual, meliorate it with a few extra details. Here we are calculation two "S" curves to the wings, to suggest the strong upper wing musculus. Finally, draw a few small "5" lines to propose the feathers on the parrot's chest.

Here is the completed pencil outline of our parrot bird drawing, after we clean up the sketch lines with an eraser.
How to describe a bird: finished parrot drawing coloured-in as macaw
Every bit usual, nosotros like to stop our drawing in colour. The first colour variant is inspired past the scarlet macaw parrot, living in the tropical rainforests of Amazon bowl in South America. These colourful birds have a brilliant cherry-red trunk, with blueish, yellow and green feathers on the wings. Strictly speaking, macaws practice not accept that "hairdo" on the peak of their head - and then go out that out, if you want a more conceivable macaw. Simply this is a cartoon way bird - we can have anything that nosotros similar.

For our second variant, nosotros have used a much simpler color scheme - just a chip of yellowish for the "hairdo" and middle of the wings, with some low-cal bluish to shade otherwise white feathers. Only past irresolute the colours, we have a very different parrot from a very different part of the world - this is an Australian sulphur-crested cockatoo.

How to draw a bird: modify the sketch to draw a very unlike bird
Footstep ane : Sketch a wider body and head
We are now going to apply the same shapes, merely with different proportions, to draw a very dissimilar type of bird. Nosotros will movement at a faster step - go back to the tutorial above if y'all need to brush up on the details. Here are both base of operations body sketches overlayed, and so you lot can see the differences: To depict a wren, the head is almost a circle, and the body, while using the same two curves, is as well much wider. The wings are shorter, and once more wider, almost quarter circles. Finally, the tail, while once again the same rectangular shape, is smaller and shorter.
Step ii : Sketch the wren'due south body
Here is the updated bird's body sketch on its own, to which we have added the bird'south face and anxiety. Equally yous meet, the anxiety are again the same, only a touch smaller. The meridian part of the beak is directly, non bent, just autonomously from that, it's the same as the parrot. Now, this is a very different bird to a parrot already - nosotros are drawing a pocket-sized wren!
